Deep Dives and Community Spirit at RMNOG

A recap of high-energy technical sessions, an unexpected Kahoot victory, and the collaborative strength of the network engineering community.

The latest Rome Network Operators Group (RMNOG) event, proudly supported by Zayo Europe, delivered an outstanding blend of cutting-edge technical insights and vibrant community building. It was a high-energy day that brought together professionals from across the national peering ecosystem, including key representatives from major IXPs such as Namex, MIX, and Ge-DIX.

The core discussions centered around the industry-wide push for more robust, scalable infrastructures, with a particular focus on advanced routing protocols and the real-world deployment of SRv6. Beyond the top-notch technical deep dives, the day took an exciting and competitive turn during the interactive sessions—where we managed to secure 1st place in the RMNOG Kahoot contest! Bringing home the trophy was an absolute highlight, matched only by the opportunity to dive into Tiziano Tofoni’s definitive new literature on IPv6, which comes at the perfect time for our ongoing architectural projects.

Events like RMNOG remind us that network engineering is driven just as much by human connection and camaraderie as it is by hardware and protocols. A massive thank you goes out to the incredible organizers and the Zayo team—especially Roberta Lazzeri and Adam Day—for hosting such a fantastic event.
